The game acts as the Downloadable Content Pack for the strategy video game Total War: Shogun 2, released in 2012. It takes place in the mid-19th century, revolving around Bakumatsu era. The Expansion pack focuses on the battles between the Shogunists and the Imperialists in the years of Tokugawa Shogunate, which is set three-hundred years after the event of the previous title. It combines the power of modern weaponry and the traditional Samurai culture. The ultimate task of the player is to control ancient Japan into the modern age, as the arrival of Britain, America and France will begin the horrific war, which will demolish the future of the nation. At the starting of the game, the player has to select his playable faction and participate in the battlefield to show off his strategic abilities while conquering the land to restore the peace.
