The Matrix Online is a Massively Multiplayer Online and Role-playing video game developed by Monolith Productions and published by Sega. The game puts the player in the role of the protagonist, a human who was stuck inside the Matrix and has been freed and shown the truth of the imprisonment of humanity. When building a new avatar, the player receives the options to take a blue pill that will return them to the former life or a red pill, which is free the mind from the Matrix and allows the player to take the body of the physical human and experience reality. The battle in the game is separated into two parts such as Interlock and Free-fire. Interlock is split into bullet-time-affected martial arts and close-quarters moves, while in Free-fire mode, the player can experience the massive gun battles. There are three character classes such as Operative, Hacker, and Coder. The player can explore the world from a third-person perspective, interact with other players, and struggle to complete a set of objectives to advance through the game.
