The game takes place in the fantasy-themed world where the player can engage himself in turn-based combat. It acts as a continuation of the Shining video game series, containing three separate titles but the connecting storyline. In the game, battles are set in square grids, and each unit appears on the square. During the gameplay, the player can move a fixed amount of square to advance through the game. While playing the game, a unit can do one action from cast a spell, attack, search the area, use an item and more. Like other traditional role-playing games, the units become stronger by battling against enemies or by doing other actions in the fight, including healing allies. The player receives experience points which allow him to level up his character. The goal is simple, in which the player must slay all enemies, their leaders, or advance to a town. Throughout the game, the player engages in the tactical battles where he can resupply the soldiers, buy the equipment, and appoint the soldiers for the mission. It is a turn-based game where the player must come with a different strategy every time.
The game allows the player to move, attack, and pick up collectibles dropped by the dead soldiers. The game offers several characters, such as Edward Kyle, James Gallant, Keith Miller, Frank Gaunt, and many others. The main antagonists of the game are Adolf Hunter, Alexander, Himmler, and Carmilla.
All the characters have different attributes, such as HP, Martial Spirit, Speed, Hit, and Weight. The characters who possess all the required abilities for the battle can participate; otherwise, the battle will not occur if the soldiers are unfit. Many characters can hit targets with perfect accuracy from a distance, whereas some are weak in dominating the aims from a distance.
