The game takes place in the fantasy-themed world where the player can engage himself in turn-based combat. It acts as a continuation of the Shining video game series, containing three separate titles but the connecting storyline. In the game, battles are set in square grids, and each unit appears on the square. During the gameplay, the player can move a fixed amount of square to advance through the game. While playing the game, a unit can do one action from cast a spell, attack, search the area, use an item and more. Like other traditional role-playing games, the units become stronger by battling against enemies or by doing other actions in the fight, including healing allies. The player receives experience points which allow him to level up his character. The goal is simple, in which the player must slay all enemies, their leaders, or advance to a town. The game offers specific tasks to perform and make progress, such as eliminating a specific foe under restricted conditions. The player will gain success by either eliminating all the foes or capturing their headquarters.
The game offers a campaign mode where the player has to explore all the five continents by serving as a commanding officer. Each continent has sub-continents, and the player has to complete all the missions from the sub-continents. The game also has a design mode where the player has to color the palettes or edit the desired map with exciting resources. When a player makes a map, he can save it and play multiple times on that created map.
