Shadow Warriors II: The Dark Sword of Chaos is a Single-player Platform video game developed and published by Tecmo. The second installment in the Ninja Gaiden trilogy, the game revolves around the events set one year after the release of the previous title.
The game is about an evil emperor who devises a plan to dominate the world after hearing of the defeat of Jaquio and engulfs it in darkness with the help of an evil sword known as the Dark Sword of Chaos. According to the storyline, Robert T. Sturgeon recruits the protagonist of the game named Ryu Hayabusa and informs him that he is only the person who can fend of the antagonist.
In the game, the player controls the protagonist from a side-scroll perspective through a set of platforming levels known as Acts. The player can run, jump, and attack enemies to reach the end of each level safe and sound. There is an option for the player to dispatch enemies by either entrusting them using the dragon sword or taking down them using the power-boosting items.

The game introduces two playable characters such as Soph Blazkowicz and Jess, each with a unique personality and playstyle. In the start, the player has an option to choose one of them and jump into the game to explore the environment from a first-person viewpoint to take on enemies using a set of weapons. An optional co-op multiplayer mode is available in the game to increase the gaming experience, and during the gameplay, the player must complete a set of challenging levels either alone or with another player. Throughout the gameplay, the player gets control over an unnamed protagonist, where the main task is to get hold over French resistance. While inspecting the world, the player views the environment from a first-person perspective.
The player also has a partner named Maria, whom he can communicate from a virtual textbox that appeared before the player. With the help of a computer master, the player can hack the Nazi’s base to be in touch about the current happenings. Most of the game is text-based, where the player has to follow the given instructions.
