Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Time is an Adventure, Roguelike, and Single-player video game developed by Chunsoft. Throughout the game, the player assumes the role of an unnamed hero who has to take part in missions and battles with a partner named Pokémon. The game has multiple Pokémon where the player can select any one as his partner on a quest.
The player can use coins from Treasures to buy items, store equipment, and upgrade the skills. The player enters dungeons to complete missions and encounters hostile Pokémon. During the story mode, if either the player or his partner gets defeated, that team will lose all their money and half of their items.
In the main story, the team will not lose anything if the team leader dies. The player can send a team member to aid a friend that grants access to the team to have more than four members. Defeated teams also engage in a standby adventure mode in which players revisit previous dungeons to collect items and level up the team.
