The game is the third main title in the series of Ninja Gaiden trilogy, in which the story of the game takes place in the first two games of the series. The player commands the protagonist named Ryu Hayabusa who is framed for the murder of Irena Lew and interrogates the circumstances behind the case of her death. The player eventually finds a plan by CIA agent named Foster and another character named Clancy to use an international rift to make and control a race of superhuman mutants. The game offers similar gameplay to previous games and comes with new features such as sword power-ups, the ability to hand overhead, and more. There are many levels, and the player needs to battle against enemies in each one to advance.
