Like other game editions, the player takes on the role of the main protagonist named X, who has to smash the enemies out off the screen using unique abilities. Initially, X is unlocked, but the player can unlock Zero after finding and defeating the Zero Nightmare.
Both characters will be rewarded with various power-ups and items after rescuing certain Reploids. With the addition of the Nightmare, Rescuing Reploids has become a tough job. The third title in the series of Mega Man video games, following the same format takes place forth by its two predecessors. In the game, the player assumes the role of the Mega Man, who needs to complete a set of stages in any available order. Taking down the boss of the stage will earn the player its weapons, which the player can choose and use at will throughout the rest of the game. The game comes with new elements, including the canine sidekick Rush and the ability to slide along the ground. Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters is an Adventure, Arcade, Fighting, and Single-player video game developed by Capcom. It is the sequel to the Mega Man game and offers the same gameplay to follow with new features. Unlike its original title, the game has three stories to play, and all the stories have different enemies to fight.
The game has many playable characters such as Mega Man, Proto Man, Bass, and Duo. The game lets the player choose the stages, and if he gets stuck on a particular scene, the game offers some hints about the monsters’ weaknesses. Three playable modes, such as adventure, single-player, and co-op, are there with unique scenarios. It appears with unique gameplay with more depth and twists having eight normal and two bonus levels. In the end, the player comes to face Dr. Will, the main antagonist.

Similar to other Mega Man games, the player assuming the role of the main hero comes across unlimited enemies and must terminate them to stop happening worse. Two main abilities of the hero include jumping and shooting to meet the requirements. Moreover, the character can also use a sliding maneuver to dodge obstacles or to launch a more powerful shot.
As the player starts with limited lives and he can lose one lifeline by touching enemies or coming in contact with the projectiles. Lives and health can be restored by grabbing the items dropped by enemies. At the end of each stage, players must battle the Robot Master of that stage. After terminating the Robot Master, the player can relinquish his respective weapon with limited ammunition, which can be used against other masters/bosses.
