Magic: The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 (shortened as Dot 2012) is a Collectible Card video game created by Stainless Games and published by Wizards of the Coast. It has both Single and Multiplayer modes, and the gameplay is based on the famous CCG game of the same name, released in 1993. The game follows the original format of the first card game, however within a more framework. The game lets the player follows the standard rules of the CCG game Magic: The Gathering, where each player needs to create a deck of cards, comprising spells and lands. During the gameplay, the player can use the land to generate the mana (the resource needed to cast powerful spells). In the game, Mana comes in five different colours, and cards need coloured or generic to be cast. There are a variety of spells, ranging from sorceries to summoned creatures, which can attack and protect the player from the opponent. The game features four campaigns such as an initial campaign, a challenging campaign, a revenge campaign, and more. The game offers the mix of Strategy, Collectible Card, and Tactics elements to offer the challenging gameplay. It takes place in the board consisting of a series of duels, played with cards. The game is divided into a campaign mode, in which the player must struggle to conquer all the levels of the Monster Coliseum. It has several modes such as Free Battle Mode, a Campaign mode, and a Versus mode. In the Free Battle mode, the player plays skirmish matches against the number of enemies defeated in the campaign while in versus mode, the player must attempt to defeat the human opponent. Before starting the game, the player needs to select a symbol, assign parameters and buy a starter kit card deck.
