Throughout the game, the player takes on the role of a protagonist named Shinji Ikari, who has to uncover the mysteries lies behind linear murders. The player has to gather clues about the murders and unusual happenings.
The game starts with a meetup with Rei, who wants help to gain freedom from a teenage attacker. The player has to fight with this attacker, and the main goal is to identify the attacker who is turning the humans into the dead. There are many different locations where the player can engage in investigation and must find clues against the suspicious.
The game has three playable characters where every character has a different play-style and abilities. In the multiplayer mode, the player can invite other friends to control the individual character and help him to find the criminal.
