Dead Cells is an exciting Rogue-like, Metroidvania, and Single-player video game created and published by Motion Twin. The game can be described as a Roguevania, the mixture of Action-Exploration Metroidvania and Randomly-generated rogue-like games. In the game, the player controls the mass of cells that control the body of the prisoner at the start of the game. As the player explores the variety of dungeons and battle against deadly creatures within, the player gathers armour, unique-power-ups, and weapons to boost his power. Some enemies will offer cells when taken down, which the player can use to obtain power-ups like extra health potions, new items, and more. The player can spend these collected cells at the dungeon section’s end. If the player dies before completing the dungeons, he loses all the collected cells. Dead Cells includes core features such as Interconnected World, Replayability, Permadeath, Non-linear Gameplay, Exploration, Hidden Passages, Secret Rooms, and more. The game is played from a side-scroll viewpoint.

It mainly focuses on turn-based tactics, using the card-based system and lets the player control the actions and movements of the protagonist. In the start of the game, the player needs to customize his deck, and jump into the battlefield against other players or AI to show off his abilities. The cards in the game represents various elements such as weapons, equipment, and characters. When the game started, the player needs to one of six different cards to attack opponent. In Action mode, the player needs to select the cards and use them to move the character. Most of the cards enable the player to move the character three spaces while certain cards allows the player to move up to six spaces.
