Bomberman: Act Zero is an Action, Fighting, and Single-player video game developed by Hudson Soft. Throughout the game, the player plays as Bomberman, who must destroy other participants to lead the battle. The game offers the player to customize his character, including gender, outfit, abilities, skills, etc. The player views the environment from an overhead perspective.

The levels of the game have many pillars and require the characters to navigate down the pillars. Sometimes, the player has to dodge obstacles in these paths, whereas others need destruction using bombs. The bombs are an important asset to defeat opponents. A new mode, first-person battle, where the player can view the action from behind the character.

In the standard mode, the player attains death by a single bomb, whereas in FPB mode, the player has granted a life meter and can take multiple hits. In both modes, the protagonist can pick up different power-ups such as speed, bomb count, bomb strength, and bomb duration. If the player-character dies, the player has to restart the game.
