The game serves as a follow-up to its predecessor, Alan Wake, serving not as a sequel. The storyline of the game is framed by the narration of an episodic of the television show by the name of Night Springs, following the style of The Twilight Zone and occurred on TV screens throughout the Alan Wake. The friend of Alan Wake and manager named Barry is asleep in the room. The narration describes that the protagonist is trying to chase down the Herald of Darkness, Mr. Scratch, who is an evil of Alan. The game uses the similar combat mechanics to the original game. The player is equipped with a flashlight, which the player can use to focus on foes before firing at them. The game is more focused on battle, comprising ammunition and the huge arsenal of weaponry, including a crossbow, a nail gun, a machine gun, and more.

Due to an open world gaming environment and a third person gaming perspective the player along with all the people roams freely and interacts with the item easily. The player controls the protagonist and helps him and other people fight against the hordes of zombies using every weapon they have. The life rate of survivors depends on the fighting abilities of all the fighters. With super cool graphics, a well-written storyline and many weapon choices, The Walking Dead provides with an amazingly fascinating game-play.
